Jabugo, a small town located in the province of Huelva, famous for its production of acorn-fed Iberian ham, cured meats, and Iberian pork, has been the main producer of this unique gastronomic delicacy since ancient times. It has been recognised for its high standards of quality and flavour. The municipality is a producer and gives its name to the Jabugo Protected Designation of Origin.
Beyond its rich gastronomic offerings, Jabugo preserves local traditions and customs, while also providing other points of interest such as a wide variety of outdoor activities, like hiking and mountain biking, allowing visitors to enjoy the region's natural beauty.
The Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park is the second largest protected area in all of Andalusia, It covers 186,000 hectares and encompasses 28 different municipalities.
This mountainous area is located in the far northwest of the province of Huelva and is known for its impressive natural landscape, its rich biodiversity and its cultural heritage. Since 2002 it has been part of the Dehesas de Sierra Morena Biosphere Reserve.. This park is affiliated with the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (ECST) and the Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche). Furthermore, it holds Starlight Certification for its minimal light pollution, which allows for optimal stargazing conditions.
The uniqueness of this protected space is not only its ecological diversity, but also the close relationship between the municipalities that make up the Natural Park and its ecosystem.
The Sierra's special climatic conditions and topography give rise to lush vegetation. Depending on the altitude, we will see large expanses of holm oak pastureland, areas with cork oaks and gall oaks in the shaded slopes and valleys, and chestnut forests in the higher, colder areas.
Visiting the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche has a special charm at any time of year, thanks to the richness of its landscapes of holm oak and cork oak dehesas, chestnut forests and riparian woodlands; as well as for the quality of its gastronomic products, including the Iberian bellota ham from the Jabugo Protected Designation of Origin. Furthermore, they will enjoy the European space with the greatest diversity of mushrooms and fungi in Europe.
The location of our house is perfect for discovering the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park.
